This is the warcry, stories from the battle front about a modern warriors search for Knighthood, stories of an epic loved affair lived out on a raging battle field.

Lent, placements and essays

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

LentIt has been a few really hectic weeks here at WBC, as the officer training course relentlessly moves, we try our best to keep up with the demands of full time academic studies. We are handing in work every Friday (or Thursday if it is a preaching for placement) and it seems we will continue to hand in one major piece of work every week until June (not counting the week of in April, but that is quickly countered by us having to hand in twice in some weeks).

But we did get a breather for a few days as we wen to Latvia for the Nordic cadet training weekend. It was nice to meet our Danish friends again and make new friends among Danish, Norwegian and Finnish cadets.

The weekend was held at a nice hotel in Jurmala and we celebrated our mini vacation (Yes, we actually had classes but we enjoyed them) by going to a spa. Angelina loved it and was soon swimming like a fish with only armbands to help her float.

We paid for our leisure when we got pack as we had two days to finish of our mission essay and then after placement in the weekend only three nights to finish the second NT essay. Today we handed in the last one and now we are taking a deserved night of.

It has been non stop work (except the one evening where I played frets on fire for a whole hour) so the thought of giving up essay writing for lent is a real temptation.

Language and Spirituality

One could imagine with a title like that, that this was going to be a real serious post… But alas it is not!

Hanna has always wondered how she would do if we where to go as missionaries to Croatia seeing that she doesn’t speak ‘church‘ in Croatian as it turns out we are both having enough problems with language in England.

Last week everyone in the classroom turned different shades of red and purple as we where discussing the conquest and settlement of Canaan, apparently I had used ‘Colorful‘ language (I blame Eddie Izzard for that one)… And Exegesis is not only a hard word, it is also a very challenging activity.

If anyone wonders what Jesus is doing under the sofa, well, any faithful reader of this blog might remember this post.

Field 5

Field five

The pressure is constantly on here at college, but some students, who shall remain nameless to protect the “Innocent“, have excelled in field five.

Field five is the study of pranks and practical jokes. So far only tutors have been targeted but who knows where this will lead?!

Todays comic is somewhat of an inside joke, but the gist of it is that in response to an anecdote Gordon Cotterill came to his office one morning, only to find 39 tubs of Angel delight placed around his office.

On uniforms

Uniforms are obviously discussed a lot, what to wear, when to wear it. Going caroling there have been a bit of confusion about the storm jackets that prompted this cartoon.

Please do leave a comment if you enjoyed it (or if you didn’t)

College Bluez

College seems to be getting on everyones nerves, including mine. I think the biggest issue is the fact that there is precious little time for us to reflect, digest and contemplate all that is being said in class and not the actual fact that we are taught many things that turn our beliefs up side down.

Anyhow this little cartoon is my contribution, if it made you smile it was worth the work I put into it.

For all of you about to rock, I salute you!

PICT1699Last night when Hanna went to her small group I didn’t know what to do with myself I was bored… When I asked Hanna what to do she said whatever you do, have fun!

So I decided to blow the evening off with something fun. I Downloaded Frets on Fire1 and hoped it would have at least half an hour entertainment value. I was wrong, I was sooo wrong, I was hooked!

I have heard from Various people that guitar hero was supposed to be fun, I was sceptical. I was even more sceptical that an open source version using your keyboard as a guitar could be any fun at all. But it was. Loads of fun. Due to the game idea being extremely simple and the Frets on Fire unique keyboard setup and stance, It RAWKS!

I urge you, if you have ever been into playing music, if you love rock, download your copy today and rock on.

A few words of caution:

  • You will get addicted
  • You will get pain in your fingers
  • You might break your keyboard
  • You WILL look very silly.
  1. An open source guitar hero clone []

What kind of dragon are you?

Monday, June 26th, 2006

It’s a shame that the gold dragon requires magic or I’d have swung the “knight dragon” :PBut I guess I am not yet as refined as a knight or a palading but have to be labeled a mere warrior, not that I shun that title. If it on the Other hand is a pern dragon it means I have a shot at being Weir leader and that has it’s own appeal I guess :)

My inner dragon is the mighty warrior of dragon-kind. I don’t play silly head-games or use fruity magic, I stick to the basics: big muscles and lots of flame. Wipe that smirk off your face, pal. Click the image to try the Inner Dragon Online Quiz for yourself.

But what sort of a dragon would you be if that really was the whole story? You also like to stomp your enemies, incite human rebellions, start the occasional war, and spend lazy hours preening your battle aura. Your favorable attributes are strength, physical abilities, thriftiness, warmth, and longevity in battle. Just in case some puny human (or conniving Red Dragon) thinks they can get the drop on you, you’ve got a concealed breath weapon – gigantic masses of Fire. Hey, it’s the tried and true way to cook a cow in 0.75 seconds. Use it well, my friend.

What kind of soda are you?

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

So I am of to an NCD conference with Christian Schwartz today, so I won’t be blogging but I found this at blogthings.com, incidently I recently found Dr. Pepper wich is my favorite drink, at Stockmanns here in Riga it was a victory. Finally I can celebrate those small moments in style.

You Are Dr. Pepper

You’re very unique and funky, yet you still have a bit of traditionalism to you.
People who like you think they have great taste… and they usually do.

Your best soda match: Root Beer

Stay away from: 7 Up

I’ve found Jesus

Friday, April 14th, 2006

- What are you looking for honey?

- Jesus

- Well look under the sofa. Thats your best bet!

5 minutes later

- Did you find?

- Yea He was under the dressing table.
